On the Move - A Life - Oliver Sacks

I've read lot of Oliver Sacks writings and enjoyed them and I looked forward to reading his auto-biography that was published posthumously.  I had a completely different impression of him from his non-fiction writing and it didn't fit the description of his personal life.  It was a good read and made me sad that we lost his talent.

Quote:

"..During prohibition, a very strong extraction of Jamaica ginger or "jake" was freely available as a "nerve tonic" but was used as a substitute for alcohol. It was doctored with TOCP which turned out to be a nerve poison which gave people the "jake walk" and eventually led to death."

"..Bates's Naturalist on the River Amazons, [a 19th century book, Henry Walter Bates]
