Sub-title: The Journals of May Dodd
This was a good read. The author imagined women being recruited to be the wives of native Americans in the time of President Grant. An arrangement was proposed by a Chief of the Native Americans to integrate the two cultures by giving the tribes one thousand white women. May Dodd agrees to go with the first group of women to get released from the asylum where her nefarious husband had disposed of her.
May's diary tells the story of her experience journeying out West to be claimed by her tribal spouse. It was a history lesson illuminated by an imagined tale.
