Search History - Amy Taylor

I picked this book up at my nearby used bookstore I frequent, trading in old reads for their clearance items.  It's the story of a young woman who moves to Melbourne to escape a breakup and how she finds a new boyfriend.  The twist is that she tells about the relationship as its negotiated through social media. Their Facebook, texts, Instagram communications and her reactions and feelings are seen through the lens of non-face-to-face interactions.  It's a spooky peek into the real life of today's young adults navigating relationships.  I initially read it as a mystery, as she finds out the new boyfriend's previous girlfriend died in a car accident.  I was thinking he might have been involved in it but the more sinister truth is how she navigates their romance in the reality of today's technology.  Good read.

Quote:

"the sudden severing of a connection had always created a liminal space; a sort of waiting room charged with the slowly fading hope of reconciliation.  ...Silence is rejection in slow motion.  It's an injury sustained from a blow that was never dealt.  There is in theory, nothing to recover from."
