I read this because it was chosen for one of my book clubs. It's the story of a Jewish mother and her daughter separated in Poland during WWII. I did not like this story. It's predictable, the same horrors of the Holocaust as a backdrop for a touching family relationship. The "yellow bird" is an imaginary friend the mother invents for her young daughter so she will remain quiet in hiding. Not recommended.
